Girl Guides of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to host Centenary Parade ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES – 11th NOVEMBER, 2014 – The Girl Guides Association of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines would today host a centenary parade through the streets of Kingstown. The parade is to culminate activities of the local association in celebration of 100 years of guiding in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The Centenary Parade is scheduled to leave the Peace Memorial Hall at 2pm and would end at the Girl Guides Headquarters in Level Gardens. Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guides Association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Mrs. Réchanne Browne - Matthias indicates that the Centenary Parade would not only act as the culmination of activities for the celebration of 100 years of guiding in St. Vincent and the Grenadines but would also launch the next 100 years of girl guiding in SVG. All Bim Bims, Brownie Guides, Girl Guides, Ranger Guides, Guiders, Executive Members and Council members would today turn out in their numbers to execute the centenary theme “Ever Alive, Celebrate and Thrive.” Some of the members would wear uniforms from different member organisations of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts while most of the girls would represent in their local Girl Guide uniforms. All citizens of St. Vincent and the Grenadines who have been a part of the Girl Guides Movement are encouraged to come out and join the parade. A circular (229/2014) from the Ministry of Education in St. Vincent and the Grenadines advises that permission has been granted to the members of the association in primary and secondary schools to be dismissed at midday to allow them to participate in the parade given parental consent. The centenary parade is an exciting opportunity for all girls and young women from the local Association to be involved in celebrating such a milestone. The Girl Guides Association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has held several significant activities to celebrate 100 years of guiding locally. These include the launch of a centenary song, the 100 leg relay from Fitz Hughes to Georgetown where guiding was started, the painting of a centenary mural, a music festival dubbed “Voice, Body and Soul”, A Gala Dinner, a Photo Exhibition, a centenary camp with guides and volunteers from the Caribbean and Suriname and a Centenary Campfire. The Girl Guides Association encourages members of the public to show their support as they parade this afternoon.
