Girl dies at private school treating Internet addiction The death of a 19-year-old girl at a private school has sparked a heated debate on social media in China. Ling Ling (name changed), who is from Xinxiang in Henan Province, was enrolled at the Zhengzhou Boqiang New Idea Life Training School in Henan Province. The school claims that it treats teenagers who are addicted to the Internet. On May 20, the school called Ling Ling’s mother asking her to go to Zhengzhou to see her daughter. However, when she arrived, she found that her daughter was dead. According to reports, the night before, Ling Ling, along with some other students, had been punished for violating the school’s regulations. A fellow student explains that as part of the punishment, they were assigned a special night training session. During the session, the teachers pulled at their arms and legs and hoisted them up before dropping them to the floor. This was done repeatedly. A few hours later, Ling Ling began to vomit blood and could not move. “However, the teachers said that she was faking death and beat her again,” informed the fellow student. Police have arrested five people in connection with the incident, and as soon as it came to light, the local education bureau withdrew the schools certification.
