Girlfriend Brag: Some of you may have read here and on her Carol Justice page about what she has been going through regarding forced flood insurance on her house in Cornelius, OR. This forced insurance is based on faulty FEMA flood zone maps and her mortgage lender taking FEMAs word and charging Carol higher insurance rates. The City of Cornelius has been no help in solving the issue, and her county commissioners and representatives have been stuck in the process due to the power of FEMA. The lender, frankly, goes only by what FEMA maps have shown in error. This has cost Carol a great deal of money she doesnt have, a great deal of heartache, and extra money above that for a surveyor to prove that her property is NOT in a flood zone. Still, she has had no relief from the feds or her lender. Heres the BRAG part: Last Monday evening (MLK Day) we went to a town hall meeting at the Beaverton, OR, Public Library, where Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR, 1st District) spoke with citizens about a variety of issues. Carol was able to present her flood insurance issue to the congress persons in a public forum. They both heard her loud and clear, and agreed that this is a broad problem around the US. Sen. Wyden said that a new bill covering this issue written by Sen. Jeff Merkley will be presented in the U.S. Congress next week, and will get the bill to Carol for review and input. Lets wish her luck with this in getting relief and solving the rip-off shes getting. Im sure shed love to hear from you. Sorry about this video quality and it being sideways, but you can hear what Carol, Wyden and Bonamici say if you turn up your speakers.
