Given that weve had kittens this year, of course we have requests for kittens. Unfortunately, this also means we have a number of people who want to declaw their Siberian kitten. This is expressly prohibited under our contract. Take a moment and pop over to The Paw Project and check out their resources. There is a lot of confusion about declaw surgery including that it involves just removing the claw - that is patently false. Declawing entails removing the ends of the digits back to the joint. This like having your fingers cut off back to the first knuckle - except in a cats case, they walk on those same fingers. Not only are they now unable to defend themselves, but even basic things such as using the litter box often become painful and result in litter box avoidance. Its worth noting that the U.S. is the only developed country that hasnt banned declaw surgery. Hopefully education will open peoples eyes in the meantime.
