Glaucoma week is being celebrated from 9th to 15th March worldwide.Glaucoma is 3rd leading cause of blindness.It is silent killer of sight with field constriction and is irreversible visual loss.Risk factors r age above 40,myopia,diabetes,family history,use of steroids topical r systemic especially by quacks,blood loss,shock,...It is underdiagnosed entity with majority of patients presenting at advanced stage.Disease is asymptomatic in majority,blurred vision,difficulty in adaptation in dark,frequent change in near glasses,eye pain , field constriction...Treatment aims at control of intraocular pressure medically r surgically and halts just its progression.Disease destroys ganglion cells of retina,pressure dependant optic neuropathy.Glaucoma week is celebrated in order t create awareness in public about this deadly disease,educate healthworkers abt this disease.The goal is to detect this disease early and initiate therapy at the earliest.
