Go to any school or college in Malaysia and ask the brightest - TopicsExpress

Go to any school or college in Malaysia and ask the brightest students – “do you want to become a priest, imam, mufti, rabbi or monk when you grow up?”. What sort of answer do you think you will get?. I think you will get a pretty big NO. Okay, let’s try again. Go to any school or college in Malaysia and ask the lower ranked students the same question. What sort of answer do you think you will get?. I think you will get the same pretty big NO. Even in the religious schools, I am pretty sure the brightest of the lot will want to become doctors, engineers, astronauts, pharmacists, etc, etc. I have not really met any kids (bright kids, that is) who have told me that they want to become a priest or imam or a monk when they grow up. The problem with our system is that most (not all) of the time, the least competent people end up as priests, monks or imams or muftis. [Note : there are exceptions]. Take the monyet challenge. Go to your local JAIS office or the nearest Hindu or Buddhist temple. Try to find out what sort of educational backgrounds the people who work there have. Very often (not all the time), people who work in these places are not the creme de la creme. You will find school drop-outs. You will find folks who barely passed their SPM. You will find graduates who barely scrapped by while at the university. Again, let me qualify by saying there are exceptions. There are some very bright religious leaders but they are a minority. Across all religions, there is a lack of competent people. That’s why you find the so-called religious leaders repeatedly making dumb statements. That’s why religious leaders like to tell people off for questioning their views – they are scared of debating because they lack the knowledge. So they hide behind the “religious” curtains, evoke God’s name when they are questioned. A bunch of imbeciles rule the religions, all religions.
