“God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord - TopicsExpress

“God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:24-28a, NKJV) Blaise Pascal, French mathematician and philosopher in the 1600’s, said, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled with any created thing, but only by God, the Creator made known through Jesus Christ.” This is not an accident or aberration—we are made that way. “God created human beings in His image. In the image of God He created them. He created them male and female.” (Genesis 1:27, New Century Version) To be created in God’s image means there is lodestone in our souls constantly pointing us toward our Maker. It also means we have a responsibility to seek Him, find Him and obey Him. Not to do so—which has been a characteristic in human beings since Adam—is the cause of all human misery. “What may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” (Romans 1:19-21, NKJV) Many years ago, I invited a friend to go with me one Sunday morning to a spirit-filled church I was attending at the time. Afterwards, his response was that although he was moved by the preaching, he felt guilty. What I told him at the time (which now I think I have a better way of expressing) was that guilt is God speaking to us and it’s a good thing to know when we’re not right with Him. Of course the devil uses guilt to torment people; but God can use our sense of separation from Him to turn us around so we recognize our need for Him, and to motivate us to “grope for Him.” And the Good News is: “He’s NOT FAR from each of us.” Hallelujah!
