Godspeed Dr. Robert Panara. Learned of your passing last night. Thank you for breaking down many doors for Deaf professors. You were RITs first Deaf professor. Because of that, youve created plethora of Deaf instructors at RIT and across the nation. I have so many stories about you. Ill share a couple: Haste makes waste Ive learned this quote from you when I hastily came into class and took the test and was the first person to leave. You gave me a low mark and wrote this quote. Ever since, Ive learned to slow down and take deep breaths before every test I took. I thank you for this lesson; ~~~ Taking up your class at College of Liberal Arts was a hoot. Because you spoke loud and clear, I remembered sitting listening you singing and signing at the same time, Yankee Doodle Dandy I looked over to the next classmate who is hearing, writing a letter--she wrote here I am sitting in this Deaf professor class, he is really loud and his singing annoyed me. I smiled big and decided to enjoy every moment I have with you even if it means you singing off-key. This class actually saved me at the end, not at the end of the quarter, but when I transferred to Gallaudet University and in my last semester, I realized that this class was not pre-approved for the credit (but was approved for other students who took same class with me on that day-Maureen Behrens, do you remember that? You saved me a semester!) I had to fight against English Dept chairperson who I was aloof and I went above to Dean of Arts Science. The course was approved and I graduated on time. ~~~ Thank you Dr. Panara and I know youre reunited with love of your life, Shirley. May you always be filled with love light and shine on those who grieve. Thank you and Godspeed.
