Going to do some bragging here for a minute so be prepared..lol! For those people that know my husband he is definitely one of a kind! I have loved how he writes since the moment he wrote a poem to me several days after we met and since then have carried things he writes on worn out paper with me every where I go. That paper is 11 years old. So as you can see I cherish his writing very much! Phillip had to write a paper for his college English class and it of course had to be done to specifications, When he was done he asked me to read it. This is what it said: He is amazing! Turning Blue Heat permeated every square inch of my body bringing my skin to tears. Screams from an overzealous instructor echoed through the early morning air. At this point, it appeared my decision to enlist in the Army was proving to be a serious mistake. This was going to be a challenge unlike anything I had ever experienced, and I had to find the courage to overcome this obstacle. This place is where the boys are separated from the men, and only the strong survive. My introduction to infantry training was a shocking experience, but I was determined to succeed and walk proudly with a blue cord. The first day of training was an overwhelming endeavor. Three men in brown hats were waiting for me when I exited the bus. They were obviously displeased with my arrival, and I was immediately commanded to the ground. As my arms began to fail from endless exertion, my mind raced with thoughts of doubt. The idea of failure had become a real possibility, and I began to question my resolve. Perhaps faking an injury would be my ticket home, I pondered. Determination would prove to be a vital attribute as time progressed. The days were slowly assembled into weeks, and I began to notice a significant change in my strength and agility. Pain and sweat were simply the effects of weakness leaving my body. This increase in performance allowed me to achieve more tasks. A young boy was transforming into a soldier, and I could feel the changes taking hold. The thought of escape had diminished completely, and my mind became focused on success. A blue cord adorned my uniform on graduation day. Hundreds of people were gathered near the parade grounds to witness this extraordinary event. The “Turning Blue” ceremony is when graduates from infantry training are presented with the Infantry Blue Cord. This blue cord is designed to separate infantry soldiers from other members of the military. The band played in the background as we marched down the aisle. All the hard work was finally rewarded, and I wore the symbol proudly. Now, 15 years later, it hangs on my wall as a reminder of what I have accomplished. Infantry training is designed to be difficult and demanding. My abilities were put to the test, and there were moments when I could have failed. Although I struggled initially, my determination helped me achieve success. Graduation day was a spectacular experience, and I am proud of my accomplishment. I will never forget the day I turned blue.
