Going to the rally today? A few of us assembled talking points in case of a media interview - (please share!): - We are extremely grateful to the United States Government for their staunch and unstinting support of the people of Ukraine. We applaud President Obamas statement, concrete actions and Executive Order of of this morning. Secretary of State John Kerry has been superb in his repeated and firm insistence on the integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. Ambassador Samantha Powers debunking of Russian lies was excellent. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nulands strong support from the very beginning was extremely welcome. We ask the United States to please continue to stand with Ukraine, and see this through to the end. - Ukraine is a multi-national sovereign nation. Jewish-Ukrainians, Russian-Ukrainians, Armenian-Ukrainians, Crimean-Tatar-Ukrainians, Belarusian-Ukrainians all stand alongside their brethren ethnic Ukrainians in Kyiv, in Crimea, all across, diverse, and unified. The country is diverse like the United States - and like the United States, eager to be a free democracy. - Propaganda is an extremely dangerous tool in time of war. We urge the world to be savvy about the pronouncements of Russian media and those reporters and academics who purport to present an alternate view. Theirs is NOT a valid alternate view, but a tactic of war intended to mislead and deceive. Some international media is naive - we urge everyone to do their homework and get the facts straight. This is war, lives are at stake. - Putin is working a long-term strategy. There is still much to be done to rebuild the Ukrainian government after the last presidents corruption while protecting Ukraine in this transitional state from Putins aggressions and provocations. We ask the United States to stand with Ukraine for the long haul. Security throughout Europe and the free world depends on this. - The United States strong support of Ukraines territorial integrity, and honoring the Budapest Memorandum, sends a strong message of commitment and seriousness to those adversaries - for example, Iran and North Korea - who might consider aggressions of their own. They must continue to see a strong and unwavering United States as a world leader, for the threats they represent to be contained. Ukraine gave up its nuclear arsenal for world peace - now asks the world to help preserve it. - Our hearts go out to the Crimean Tatars. Deported from their homeland by the Soviet government over half a century ago, since Ukrainian independence over 300,000 have been able to return to their native land. No ethnic Russians or Russian speakers anywhere are threatened by Ukraine - but Putins threat to the Crimean Tatars is very real. We ask the world to also stand up for the Crimean Tatars, and their rightful place in Ukrainian Crimea.
