Todays Fresh Manna (15.10.14) Encounters with Jesus - 8 (A New Series from the Gospel of Luke) ************************ Luke 5:20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. Luke 5:24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. (Read Luke 5:17-26) Forgiveness & Healing ************************ This is the first time the Lord made manifest His authority to forgive sins. Though the Lord has been healing so many sick people and cast out demons, He proclaimed forgiveness before healing a paralyzed man. The scene described by Dr. Luke makes it clear that many Jewish religious leaders and teachers came from all over the land and were sitting at the place. The power of the Lord was present to heal the sick. The Lord wanted them to know purposely and definitely that He has the authority not only to heal the sick but also to forgive sins which was the prerogative of God alone. Thus the Lord was proving that He was God manifest in the flesh to forgive and heal the sinners and the suffering. The efforts people made who brought the paralyzed man to the Lord are commendable. The Lord appreciated their faith and healed the sick man. But before that He had to forgive his sins. This clearly shows that the root cause of all sickness and problems in human lives come from sin. When Adam and Eve (and the Serpent/Satan) sinned God cursed them with suffering and death. Hence man begins to die the moment he comes out the mothers womb. The life towards the tomb is invariably filled with suffering, sickness and ultimately leading to death. What is eternal and top priority for the Lord is forgiveness for our sins. Sickness may come again and again. Forgiveness saves our souls and assures heaven. Forgiveness releases us from all bondages so we may serve the Lord freely. Many preachers/pastors are preaching about healing and blessings and leaving aside the message of forgiveness deliberately. When you talk of forgiveness, you have to talk about sin and repentance which are not pleasing to people to hear. The preaching mean to please people is not true message from God and it will never save anyone nor bring glory to God. It is better for you to go to heaven with one leg than to hell with two legs. Many want to go to hell healthy and wealthy. This is false gospel and false hope. There is great joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than many who think they dont are righteous. Do not rejoice because the demons obey you, but because your names are written in the Book of Life. These are strong statements by the Lord. Make sure you have received forgiveness for your sins by repentance and faith in the Lords death and resurrection. The Lord wants to say, man/woman your sins are forgiven; be healed of all your sicknesses and sufferings. Amen.
