This is getting outta hand. ---I may just be "offended" by this level of "Politically Correct" Bull crap....SEATTLE — A recent memo to public affairs officers at Seattle city agencies pointed out that the terms “brown bag” and “citizens” could be offensive to some. Usually, brown bag refers to a bring-your-own lunch event or simply a sack lunch. Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn has had frequent so-called brown-bag lunch events with media or the public. But that term may be no more at City Hall. Elliott Bronstein, of the Office for Civil Rights, recently sent out a memo explaining why the phrases might not be the best choice, according to seattlepi. “For some people, the phrase ‘brown bag’ calls up ugly associations with use of the expression ‘brown bag’ to determine if people’s skin color was light enough to allow admission to an event, a home, etc. “‘Citizens’ is a different case: We sometimes use it as another way of saying ‘members of the public’ -- except for all the members of the public who aren’t actually citizens but who live and work here,” the memo said. Bronstein pointed out that some terms used in the past aren’t the best choices now, and words must be chosen carefully.
