Good Luck Charm - Most of you are aware that today was Megans day - TopicsExpress

Good Luck Charm - Most of you are aware that today was Megans day to be the Kid Captain for the Iowa State Cyclones Football game. Honestly, there was a lot of anxiety leading up to the big day, but we had a savior and his name was Ryan Grant, the Director of Business Development - Cyclone Sports Properties. With Megans current mobility challenges, she was very nervous about performing all her duties at the game. So last night, I placed a call to Ryan and he was nothing but gracious, helpful, and accommodating. He agreed to meet us at the gate with a cart, help us with seating changes if we needed them, and basically do whatever was necessary to make Megans day as comfortable and special as possible - and he delivered! We arrived three hours early to avoid some of the traffic, and we were allowed to drive right up to the gate. However, it turned out to be the wrong gate! After a walk around the Jacobson Building, we finally connected with Ryan. He loaded up Megan in the golf cart and took her down to the field to go over her duties. We then went over to where our ticketed seats were, and Megan decided she would brave the stairs for 12th row, 50 yard line seats (jealous?). Ryan then took us up to the Jacobson Building where we were able to sit down, get some food and drinks, and watch warm ups. Megan got into the action by becoming target practice for kicker warm ups. She even got hit by one, but thankfully nothing serious! Tara managed to sit in on a recruiting meeting, and was quite inspired when coach Rhodes spoke. Just before the game started, Megan was again carted down to the field where we watched the band come through the tunnel and did a 20 minute long wave to the cameras for some B-roll footage for her video. Then Megan was driven to the Iowa State sideline where she waited for the team captains. Three huge players all welcomed her to the game and then escorted her to midfield for the coin toss. After picking sides, Megan was led off the field by the captains and the coach. You can see she was giving him some last minute advice on the way to the sideline. Ryan drove us around to our seats and Megan made the difficult climb to our awesome seats. Midway through the first quarter, they ran Megans video complete with pregame footage and her entire story. All the Cyclone fans around us stood up and gave Megan a standing ovation for her strength and courage. Needless to say, this heartfelt gesture brought a tear to my eye. We were able to stay into the fourth quarter as Iowa State was finishing off the Rockets. This is the first home win for the Cyclones this year, and Megan was the Kid Captain - I think they may have a new lucky charm!! Finally, Ryan met us with the cart and took Megan all the way out to the car. Once loaded, we put in a take out order for Hickory Park and were on our way home. At the end of the day, we are all wiped out, feeling the lingering effects of a cheese curd induced food coma. It turned out to be an incredibly special day for Megan and our whole family. We want to thank Blank Childrens Hospital for selecting Megan to be part of this wonderful program. Thanks to all the Iowa State Cyclone players, fans, and staff that accommodated us. And a final thanks to Ryan who made such a day possible. Enjoy some of the pics. I will post more to an album when we get them. Todays Top 10 post will happen tomorrow as we pay tribute to a new Top 10 moment! -Proud Iowa State Alum
