Good Monday morning, folks! According to Rodney Barney, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada (@rcbmstormpost on twitter), 5.6 cm of snow fell at the airport in St. Johns yesterday and last night. That brings the monthly snowfall to 10 cm, which is 1.2 cm higher than the least snow ever recorded for the month in St. Johns (2010)! In Gander its a bit of a different story...Just 4.6 cm of snow for the month thus far, which is far below the 20.7 cm record for least snow in December set in 1952. December of 2014 will likely replace 1952 as Ganders least snowy December on record, as not much snow is forecast before the New Year. (source: Rodney Barney) ---- The snow has definitely made it feel more like winter around the Metro! The view is certainly pretty from the NTV News SkyCam overlooking the Battery and the Narrows of North Americas oldest city! The weather today across much of the Province will be cloudy, with widespread flurries. Lots of areas will pick up a couple/few new cm of snow. Along Newfoundlands West Coast, ocean effect snow squalls get going through the day. Amounts in squalls will generally be 5-10 cm, with locally more possible. The squalls and flurries expand eastward later today and overnight as colder air moves in, along with a mid atmospheric disturbance. Temperatures will peak near 0° across the eastern 1/3 of the Island. The rest of Newfoundland will see temperatures peaking a few degrees below the old goose egg. Coastal areas may be a bit milder than that. Labrador peaks in the minus teens today. Much colder weather arrives for all areas tomorrow, with highs staying closer to -5 to -10 across Newfoundland and -20s for most of Labrador. New Years is also looking cold, with some flurries. Details on that later today. Have a great day! Cheers, Meteorologist Eddie Sheerr
