Good Monday night, September 8, 2014, coming from the living room - TopicsExpress

Good Monday night, September 8, 2014, coming from the living room couch…………. Well tomorrow is the three year anniversary of Kennedy’s AVM rupture. In a way it still seems like yesterday. I can still close my eyes and see my baby lying unconscious in the ER at Wayne Memorial Hospital. I can still see the look on Dr. Kornegay’s face as he told us it was bad and there was nothing he could do for her. I remember the outpouring of love and support from so many friends and relatives that night as we waited to hear if she would make it thru the emergency surgery. Over the last two weeks leading up to tonight I have relived so many of the memories of those 104 days she was in the hospital just like I have done the past two years leading up to Sept. 9th. I don’t think that will ever change. Kennedy is here with us today because God showed up and He “showed off.” He placed the very best paramedics, doctors, and nurses in the right place at the right time. He heard all the prayers that were lifted up for Kennedy and He answered them. In starting this I realized the last official post was nearly a year ago. Kennedy of course finished third grade with her two great teachers and forth grade has gotten off to a good start. She was discharged from OT last Dec. but we still do 20-30 minutes exercises at home almost every day. She started receiving Botox injections in her right foot this past spring and I am happy to report that they have helped so much she no longer requires the brace on her right leg! Big praise there! She is so happy to not have to wear tennis shoes all the time now. She still has PT and Speech therapy once a week. She started Karate a little over a month ago and loves it. We still go every 3-4 months so “The Man” aka Dr. Lee can lay eyes on her. He is still amazed at how well she is doing considering what she has been thru. She still has days where she wishes things could be like they were before she got sick and we usually share a little cry and pray that the next day will be better. We continue to see improvement in her 3 years later. This is still very encouraging to us since Dr. Lee said she could continue to improve 6-8 years after her last surgery. She still gives 110% in all she does and is still our monkey miracle. This summer Kennedy had the idea to donate personal hygiene bags to the Ronald McDonald House for the families with sick children in the hospital. Thanks to so many donations from all of you, Kennedy’s Butterfly Blessings has donated 123 insulated lunch totes from Thirty-One filled with personal hygiene items to the RMH and 35 mini bags filled with travel/hotel size items to the Vidant PICU! And we have more totes to fill! We hope that the items not only help the families but also let them know that God is still in the miracle business and He still answers prayers. Three weeks before Kennedy got sick I was talking to her about Jesus and about asking Jesus to come into our lives and she immediately informed me she had already done that in Ms. Glenda’s class at Goldsboro Worship Center during summer camp. We had been talking to her about being baptized the week her AVM ruptured. This Sunday, three years later, she will be baptized. She has grown into a very caring young lady who loves God and wants to share her miracle story with whom ever she meets and what a story it is! So tomorrow we will celebrate like we did last year and the year before. Special treat for her and her class followed by celebration dinner and fro yo at Kickin Kiwi just like last year! (How cool is it that tomorrow night just happens to be Northeast Spirit Night at Kickin Kiwi 5-8?) We want to thank everyone who has helped in Kennedy’s recovery over the last three years from doctors, nurses, therapists, teachers and I am sure I have left someone out. To our family, friends, church family, and KJ’s prayer warriors we will never be able to say thank you enough for all your prayers, love, and support that you have given our family. We ask that you continue to lift our girl up as we continue on this journey that began on Sept. 9, 2011. I have a feeling that God still has some “showing off” to do thru our Kennedy Jane! Kim
