Good Morning Cherokee Family! Im wondering if anyone knows how to read Cherokee. I have a copy of my GG Grandparents hand written marriage license, May 1877 or 44 from census. I cant read my GG grandmothers native name. Can anyone help me? Then their daughter Ollie - born May 1887 (my G grandma) wrote her moms name down as Sarah A. Burgess-(maiden name) Cline on her marriage license the day she got married. Now my GG grandmother was full as well as G grandma Ollie....which must mean so was my GG grandfather Fleming Cline. If thats so, Im deeply confused as to why & how he paid $1,000 to the State of North Carolina, to the governor. And this is in his own writing with 2 seals. Can anyone help with my GG grandmas native name? And the paying for a maiden?!
