Good Morning! Just an update on the b.i.k.e.-Syracuse NICA race - TopicsExpress

Good Morning! Just an update on the b.i.k.e.-Syracuse NICA race team: The last interval and weight training was done on Monday night...The kids are resting now and so excited for the race this weekend. Thanks to the lousy weather, we have not been able to get out on any of the trails...we have attempted some road riding, but the cold was just a little too much to handle....So most of the training has been indoors on trainers in the gym...UGH!! We are so ready to get out!! We are so done with winter!! Sarah, our female rider, and one of only three riders in the entire NICA NY League, has had the most improvement in the bike training. While she does have asthma, Sarah has found that, with exercise, her asthma has actually improved. While she does carry her inhaler, just in case, she has not had to use her inhaler, at all, while training....As a result, Sarah is feeling more confident in her abilities!! NICA requires that all head coaches be Wilderness First Aid trained which we applaud.....Training like this is critical for this kind of sport and especially when training kids with asthma. We are so excited for Sarah..this is her first mountain bike race! Go Sarah! The rest of the team is excited...tonight is our Team Dinner.....Victor, Zeke and Kat will go over the kids goals and the NICA Rules for racing (which include absolutely no soda, junk food or drinks on the race course with caffeine!! - GO NICA!!!) Saturday morning we leave from Syracuse at 6:00 a.m. to get to the race course for noon to do some pre-riding of the course (which is allowed)...this will enable the kids to get at least a few hours in on the trails before race day! Stay tuned on FACEBOOK for updates on the race and how our kids are doing throughout the weekend! Thank you all for your support...your donations enabled this weekend to happen.....As a result of your support, these kids are experiencing an event that they will remember the rest of their lives....These kids will draw upon the goals and confidence, developed from preparing and attending this event, for the rest of their lives.... Thank you very much..... Kat
