Good Morning Lord Devo Today I will remind myself of the good reasons you allow me to experience tough times. The Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians. . . . After 430 years of backbreaking captivity—and a set of remarkable plagues—Pharoah finally let them go. . . . Changing his mind, though, Pharoah sent his army to attack Israel. . . . God delivered his frightened people as the terrifying chariots bore down on them. . . . Then, because of their choices, the nation of Israel wandered in the desert for forty years, wondering if they had made the wrong decision when they left Egypt. . . . Why did God allow his chosen people to experience such tough times? To learn the heart of their God. To understand that they were loved and treasured. To come to appreciate and accept the need to put their complete faith in God. And to see how capable they really were when they did put their faith in him. And these are the same reasons God allows us, his children, to experience tough times today. Bottom line, I believe that one of the most powerful fruits of testing is to begin to finally grasp that although we are weak, in Christ’s strength, we are strong. Each time we are tested and each time we stand strong in his grace, we grow in our knowledge of him and in our confidence that he is our strength (Philippians 4:13).
