Good Morning Mr. Atondo; Thank you for your comments and raising this issue. I learned of the incident late last evening and was glad to hear the child had been found well. I’d like to provide a brief history on the security camera/system at the skate park and the reason for its existence. The Skate Park opened in 2008, and soon after began experiencing issues with vandalism and graffiti. In 2009, we obtained and installed a surplus video recorder and camera from our Police Department in an effort to serve as a deterrent and try to curb some of the “tagging”. However, that system proved to be insufficient in terms of clarity (very low resolution video). In addition, we had not experienced an appreciable decline in the vandalism or graffiti that would be attributable to the use of the security camera. Ultimately, the camera was vandalized to a point of being stolen, and due to the age of the system was not replaced. The City Council often has to weigh the needs of the community relative to the city’s financial commitments. We look forward to any ideas that you may have or wish to bring before the Council for their consideration. Alternatively, if you would like to spearhead a fund raising effort, or to make a donation, we have the Greater Tulare Recreation Foundation which is a non-profit arm of the Recreation and Parks Division, as a conduit for such activities.
