Good Morning, The decent soaking that the Tri-State Area - TopicsExpress

Good Morning, The decent soaking that the Tri-State Area encountered late yesterday and for a while last night has left behind some large puddles near curbs and areas of standing water early this morning... Also, there has been some fog which has developed, which will be locally dense for a while before 8 or 9 a.m. --- the good news on this, the first day of Spring which arrives at 12:57 this afternoon, is that the winds which are light and variable this morning should be shifting around to the west and southwest later... This will allow for some drier air to get mixed down to the surface from above the boundary layer, and the sun will be out for a good part of the midday and afternoon hours... And, if you dont mind a gusty wind, the temperature in most places should have no trouble reaching the lower or middle 50s... The wind should die down tonight, and it will be chilly under a clear to partly cloudy sky... Most low temperatures should be in the 30s, and tomorrow will be offering no less than a fair amount of sunshine... The temperature may be an average of 2-4 degrees lower than today, but most are still expected to be in the 50s, regardless... On the surface weather chart, theres going to be a wave of low pressure later tomorrow and tomorrow night that will be scooting across the Great Lakes and into the Northeasts interior... In all likelihood, the bulk of the precipitation it will be causing should take place across upstate New York and in New England... However, with a strong southwesterly flow of air prevailing on Saturday, we expect it to become noticeably warmer -- even if there is a shower or two around... Afternoon temperatures should be within a degree or two of 60 in the City, and it will probably be in the mid 60s across parts of interior northern and central New Jersey and cooler near the south facing shores... The rude awakening is then setting up for Sunday and early next week, when a shot of pretty cold air will be invading the Northeast and the mid Atlantic states... Even though most temperatures on Sunday will be in the 40s, this should be an average of 10-15 degrees lower than Saturday... Monday and Tuesday, many places will be hard-pressed to get out of the 30s... And, this colder air mass may have some precipitation, too... There is a wave of low pressure that has been showing up consistently on the European global model, which is being forecasted by this form of guidance to roll through the eastern Carolinas on Tuesday before it heads out to sea at night... And, while this system may not really get its act together until after it is offshore, it is conceivable that there may be some rain, wet snow or a combination of both forms of precipitation occurring on Tuesday and Tuesday night as far north as southeastern New York State and in northeastern Pennsylvania... So, we should continue to monitor the situation closely, although a cursory glance at this kind of set-up would reveal that a scenario similar to what happened late last Sunday and Sunday night (when D.C. and Baltimore got hit hard by snow, and areas farther to the north had less or nothing) ... Have a good day!!
