Good Morning, Were going to experience another much colder than normal day across the region, and most thermometers will fail to get out of the teens this afternoon... Last winter, the temperature in Central Park remained below freezing for five consecutive days (the maximum temperatures was between 20 and 27 for the period beginning January 22nd and ending on the 26th)... Today will mark the THIRD consecutive day during this most recent stretch, and it is also interesting that were in the middle of some very similar calendar dates... If it fails to reach (or surpass) 32 degrees tomorrow, then this current streak should be no fewer than five in a row... It accentuates a point we were trying to make back on Monday morning: Although we havent have a day with afternoon temperatures close to 10 this time (like we did back on Tuesday, the 7th), the duration of our subfreezing chill will last a few days longer than it did during the arctic blast a couple of weeks ago... Sunshine today will mix with some clouds, and there will be a bone-chilling breeze... The winds could gust as high as 30 mph, making it Feel Like its near zero this morning, and no higher than 10 or 12 degrees this afternoon... But, were going to see the tide turn just a bit tonight, when most temperatures should start to slowly rise, especially after midnight... Several locations will probably be in the 20s by daybreak tomorrow, and the mercury will rise to between 28 and 32... Winds will be out of the west and southwest ahead of our next clipper, which will be dragging a strong cold front through the region late tomorrow afternoon and early tomorrow night... Therefore, even thought we cant deny the fact that temperatures should be moderating, there should be enough wind to keep it from actually feeling milder, or warmer... With most of the global models showing less than a tenth of an inch of liquid being deposited on the Tri- State Area tomorrow afternoon/early tomorrow night, we should be addressing the fact that there will be a period of snow... But, unlike Tuesdays monster storm, this should only bring us a fresh coating to an inch or so... Then tomorrow night and Sunday, a fresh batch of bitterly cold air will be getting unleashed on the region... Sunday, temperatures will be about ten degrees lower than tomorrow, mostly in the upper teens and lower 20s... Looking ahead to next week, well probably have temperatures Monday afternoon which will bounce back rather abruptly, just like tomorrow... But, this will be another short-lived spurt, because the next arctic front is due to arrive later on Monday or Monday night, which will send temperatures plummeting into the single digits and lower teens by early Tuesday morning... We will need to watch an area near the Carolina Coast next week... The European global model is spinning up a new wave near Cape Hatteras on Wednesday, and the consensus now is that this ocean storm will remain well to our south and east... But, as we found out earlier this week, the forecast can change pretty quickly!!! So, this is something that will be worth watching for the next few days... Have a good weekend!!
