Good Morning everyone... I have been getting a lot of emails - TopicsExpress

Good Morning everyone... I have been getting a lot of emails and messages about why I switched from Canon to Nikon. I was going to write a blog about it but I just dont feel like blogging today so I am gonna put it all out right here for you to take in.. From 1989-2009 I shot only with Nikon cameras. In 2009 my Nikon D300 took a swim in Eagle Creek in the Columbia River Gorge. It was water damaged beyond repair. I had to replace it with something. I did not have much money tied up in lenses and at the time the 5DMK2 was the best value out there. I jumped ship and got some L glass and was on my way. I was a happy camper. 5 years later (2 weeks ago) I sold all my Canon gear. WHY? Why did I sell it and go back to Nikon? Whats wrong with Canon you ask? Nothing... Canon makes great cameras and great lenses without a doubt...What they are lagging behind in is file sizes and resolution. The last 5 years you all have seen the images I have been putting up. Those of you who purchase my work know the quality and know that Canon makes damn good cameras and they provide awesome files to print from. The files from the D800 series are roughly 20% larger than those from the 5D series...And since Canon doesnt have a camera that produces larger files I made the switch. This has given me a chance to make a fresh start so to speak...I can honestly tell you that if Canon had put out a camera near the same specs as the D800 series I would have stayed with Canon no doubt...They didnt. I know a lot of people who are dumping their Canon gear to move to Nikon for this reason....I also know a few people who dumped their canon gear, bought the Sony aR7 and now are trying to sell it because they are having a hard time getting used to the Electronic Viewfinder.... All this being said, each person is going to have a camera that fits their needs...Not all of our photography needs are the same. Just like the homes we live in and the cars we drive...A person who spends all their time in the mountains isnt going to own a Toyota Prius as their primary car, They will have a 4x4 of some kind...The person who only posts to facebook and instagram will most likely just use their cell phone camera.... Whatever your needs are for photography, by all means get the gear you need to make your dreams a reality. Most all the camera makers make great cameras and they are all targeted to a certain type of photographer. Sony, Nikon, Canon all top of the line cameras. They all take great pictures and just have different ways to use them...like Lightroom and ACR Bridge...for editing they do the same thing just with a different user interface.... I hope this explains why I made the switch...As of right now I dont see myself needing larger files than what my 810 can produce...If I do need larger files down the road then yeah I may switch again if there is another company doing it bigger...For now I am happy where I am... feel free to ask questions and I will answer them as I have time... Have a great Saturday
