Good Morning everyone, I wanted to let all interested parties know, 50 Years of Our Flag Committee have been asked to attend Brockville City Council this evening to defend our claims that, John Ross Matheson is the true “Father of Our Flag” and Brockville,Ontario has the right to declare itself “Birthplace of the Canadian Flag”. Our committee has been blessed with a huge amount of support over the past 3 years and I wanted to let all of you know the truth. There have been several individuals who have written negative letters to Brockville City Council, Recorder & Times and to City Staff, stating that our claims are false. Our 2 distinct claims are 100% accurate. I have personally researched and discussed the facts with John Ross Matheson himself, Government of Canada Archivists, journalists,and I have read thousands of documents pertaining to the history of our Canadian Maple Leaf Flag and how it was brought to fruition. 50 Years of Our Flag committee have never disputed the fact that George Stanley submitted a design which became the basis of the final Canadian Maple Leaf Flag through a memo addressed to John Ross Matheson. John Ross Matheson himself gave credit to George Stanley on the Dec 15th 1964 Parliamentary Post Card after the vote which Parliament passed the new Flag 168-73. But with that said, we can say without hesitation THE PERSON MOST RESPONSIBLE for bringing the Flag to fruition is JOHN ROSS MATHESON. There was so much work done behind the scenes which began in 1961, the dedication and tenacity of which was a commitment to fulfill a dream of Lester B. Pearson, who had placed the challenge in the nurturing hands of Leeds MP John Ross Matheson. I promise to educate the City of Brockville Council as well as the naysayers this evening. I do not know the time allotment for this presentation. It will be difficult to present 1000’s of hours of research into a brief summary. I can only hope I can do half as good of a job tonight as John Ross Matheson did in bringing us our Canadian Maple Leaf Flag. Thank you for all of your help and support, Robert J.
