Good afternoon members. What do you think of this idea? Extinct species get hope under an ambitious plan to turn back the clock and give animals a Jurassic Park-style home of their own THOUSANDS of hectares of national park land across the State will be set aside for locally extinct animals such as the bilby and numbat under an ambitious NSW government plan to returnreturn the Australian bush as it was a century ago. The Sunday Telegraph can reveal the historic multi-million dollar “Jurassic Park” proposal will involve identifying three areas of up to 4000 hectares in size within existing national parks for the reintroduction of up to eight iconic native species which no longer exist in the wild in NSW. Giant conservation fences of up to six foot high will be built around the chosen areas to keep out predators. The marsupials will then be released into national parks once stable populations have been established. The proposal allows national parks visitors the opportunity to viewview the animals on guided walks. The list of species to be reintroduced will be determined during an extensive public consultation period, but could include the bilby, numbat, brush-tailed possum, bridled nail-tail wallaby, western barred bandicoot, eastern quoll, eastern bettong, red-tailed phascogale, burrowing bettong and greater stick-nest rat.
