Good evening Loudonville Marching Band! Below, you will find a letter that I have written to all of you and your parents. Please read it carefully! It is my hopes that I can have this letter as well as an emergency medical form sent in the mail to each of you, but seeing that band camp starts very soon, I wanted to get all of this information out to you ASAP. Spread the word to everyone that may not follow our facebook page! Dear Loudonville Marching Band Members and Parents, My name is Angela Yingling and I am the new instrumental music director at Loudonville. I am from Bellevue, Ohio, a small rural community in northwest Ohio. I am a recent Miami University graduate with a degree in instrumental music education. My primary instrument is piano, however, I am also a devoted percussionist and flutist. I am thrilled to be your new director and eager to hear your ideas and input on the upcoming marching band season! It is my goal to follow the marching band camp schedule that you have already been given by the previous director as close as possible since many of you have already scheduled family vacations around the set band camp dates. However, there are slight changes to the rookie camp that you can take note of below. You will notice that I am adding a day on July 25 for everyone in the marching band to attend. I would like to use that day to meet with the students as a group, get to know each other, and get a head start on what is to come in the marching band season. I realize that some of you may have prior commitments on the 25th. If you are not able to attend this day, please contact me at [email protected]. All other days are mandatory unless approved by me prior to practice. If you are in a sport that has practices that overlap with the band camp schedule, please contact me as soon as possible and we can work out a schedule that allows you to attend both. July 21-22: Percussion and Color Guard Only (10:00-Noon) July 23-24: Percussion, Color Guard, Freshmen, and Section Leaders Only (10:00-Noon) July 25: EVERYONE (10-NOON) July 28-31 (Monday-Thursday): Everyone 9:00-Noon: Rehearsal Noon-12:30: Lunch Break (bring/pack lunch from home) 12:30-2:00: Rehearsal 2:00-6:00: Break (students must leave campus during this time) 6:00-8:00: Rehearsal 8:00-? “Forced Fun” Event August 1 (Friday): Everyone 9:00-Noon: Rehearsal Noon-6:30: Break 6:30PM: Banquet (Parents Invited!) 8:00PM: Field Performance of Show 9:00PM-11:00PM: Party at School! 11:00PM: Go Home and Collapse! August 4 (Monday): Drum Corp Show 4:30PM: Leave LHS and travel to Massilon 11:00PM: Arrive back at LHS August 5-7 (Tuesday-Thursday): Everyone 10-Noon: Rehearsal August 11-15 (Monday-Friday): Everyone 10-Noon: Rehearsal August 18-19: TBD-possible extra rehearsal (10-noon) if needed *The cost of camp is $40.00. This includes snacks, “forced fun,” band t-shirt, drum corp ticket, and transportation. Checks should be made out to L-P Music Boosters. After talking with the music boosters and administration as well as students and community members that I have had the opportunity to meet, we have decided to transition the style of our marching band to a show style. This means that we will be learning and performing multiple shows throughout the season that feature high-step marching, show band drills, and popular music from various decades. The theme of our first show that we will be learning during band camp is “Rock n’ Roll!” I will have music available for students to pick up in the band room between 9AM and Noon, July 16-17. They may also pick up their music between 9AM and Noon, July 21-24. Again, I am extremely excited to become part of such a wonderful music program, school district, and community. I am looking forward to meeting all of you and hearing any ideas or input that you may have. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you! Sincerely, Angela M. Yingling Band Director Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village Schools
