Good evening all! Tuesday saw Chicagos 2nd 60-deg temp of the year at OHare before the afternoons NE winds sent temps lower. Its been 21 years since so few 60s have occurred by this date--and only 19% of the 144 years for which we have records have generated no more than two 60s through April 8th. Theres better news on the temperature front well into the coming weekend. The longest string of consecutive 60+-deg temps is ahead of us the next 5 days. SW winds take hold and boost temps Wed, overcoming any lake-cooling in the process, producing mid 60s. Meantime, Thus NW winds promise another day of 60s. The Gulf opens this weekend and this may well set the stage for not only the mildest weekend in 6 months, but also one of the wettest with Sunday showers and thunderstorms generating downpours ahead of a sharp temp pullback Sun night/Mon. Check out the cumulative precip forecast for the coming 7 days off the European Centers ECMWF model, that models precipitable water forecast (which shows the evaporated moisture in the atmosphere available to the Sunday/Monday storm system) and the high temps predicted for Saturday. Note: Were going to have watch Saturday wind direction projections carefully in the days to come. Any easterly component to the flow could bring cooler air across the shoreline into lakeside locations of northeast IL and SE Wisconsin. Many of you have sent us some beautiful shots of the rainbows which have resulted from this afternoon and evenings showers away from the lake. The photos were posting come from (in order of their appearance Kevin Sheely, from Richard Wronski our Chicago Tribune west suburban bureau in Lisle, from Terry Caley in Lemont, and Lauren Mazon in Homer Glen! More on all this on our WGN Nine OClock News.
