Good morning All, Many of you have known me for years and know that my heart is with POL, no matter what position you hold; whether you are still in uniform (Air Force, Army, Navy or Marine Corps) a civilian worker working in the industry or a contractor. We all know that hindsight is 20/20 and with that said here is my story and what I wish I had done in lieu of the path I took. I retired from the Air Force in 1994, at that time I began working for Government Contractors. I made good money and enjoyed those I worked with however, like many contracts they end or are re-bid and a different company is given the contract. So either you are re-hired by the company who has won the contract or you are looking for new work. This can be pretty stressful. Here is the point I am trying to make, if I had become a Government Employee back in 1994 (instead of waiting until 2008) this year I would have had 20 yrs as a Government Employe e. Yes, I could have retired again and then done the Government Contracting work. Just something to think about. If you are retiring from the service, I would keep my eyes on federal jobs posting on usajobs.gov . I certainly hope this helps someone out there. Very Best Always, Terry L. Lowe
