Good morning America how are ya? Trayvon Martin’s mother - TopicsExpress

Good morning America how are ya? Trayvon Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton went before the US Senate and without a written transcript made this statement about Florida’s so called “Stand Your Ground Law”: I just wanted to come here to...let you know how important it is that we amend this stand your ground because it certainly did not work in my case, So I have to ask, when was Ms. Fulton assaulted, knocked to the ground and had her head bashed on the sidewalk? Because if she is talking about the Zimmerman case, the laws worked exactly as designed. A felonious assault was stopped with deadly force as a self-defense measure. There are more deadly shootings by gang members than there are by citizens who are just trying to protect themselves yet no one speaks out against the gangs killing people. I think there is a lot of hypocrisy here because these gang members are predominantly, not all, black. If a black person there had been no news had shot Trayvon Martin, no rallies, no Jesse or Al, and the Martin family probably would not have become well off like they are now. I am sorry that they lost their son in the shooting and it is a sad thing when any human being is killed in a shooting but taking the guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens is not the answer. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, 22 states have laws that allow, There is no duty to retreat (from) an attacker in any place in which one is lawfully present”. The states are Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia, according to the NCSL. At least nine of those state laws include language stating one may stand his or her ground: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina, according to the NCSL.
