Good morning... Risk of Severe Weather: Moderate Significant Weather: Sleet and Snow Showers (N Hills). Wind: NW moderate or fresh, locally strong in exposed areas in the N this morning. Summary: Cold and showery at first today with the showers wintry on hills, increasingly dry and bright, if not sunny for most areas into the afternoon and this leading to a cold and frosty night tonight. Forecast: Showery conditions dominate across many northern and western areas of the UK with Scotland, Ireland, N England and N Wales seeing some frequent and often heavy, wintry showers. Sleet and snow is possible above 200m to 250m with some further accumulations across the hills and mountains of Scotland in particular. For many central and southern areas of England and also into E England, it is a dry morning with some bright or sunny spells. Through into Monday afternoon and as a ridge of high pressure builds into the UK from the west the showers will tend to ease and become increasingly scattered. A few will remain across parts of Scotland, Ireland and perhaps Wales, but the trend through the afternoon is for most areas to become increasingly dry with bright or sunny spells. As soon as sunset occurs temperatures will fall quickly and a frost and icy patches are then expected to become quite a widespread occurrence into the evening. A cold day for many areas with temperatures near or slightly below average with highs ranging between 3C and 6C across most areas of Scotland, Ireland and N England and between 4C and 8C across Wales and the rest of England.
