Good morning boot campers!! I’m sure by now you have all heard Cara or the motivators advising you to drink water all day every day, and we probably sound like a bunch of broken records, but there is a very important reason for this. Staying adequately hydrated is not only important for fitness, but it is also absolutely imperative for good health. Your body loses water through sweating, breathing, and waste elimination; therefore it needs to be replenished on a daily basis. Water is the number one fluid choice for hydrating the body and here are a few reasons why: (1) Lubricates muscles and joints: reduces or eliminates chances of suffering from sprains and cramps. (2) Proper GI function: aids in digestion and fosters the elimination of toxins and waste from your body. (3) Nutrition: helps dissolve some minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients to makes them more accessible to the body. Also carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells in the body. (4) Reduces weight: It is a calorie-free beverage that can help regulate your appetite. (5) Body temperature regulation: excessive heat is eliminated from your body through your skin pores as perspiration. (6) Hydrates your skin: more effective than any store bought moisturiser. (7) Improves alertness and eliminates fatigue, giving you more energy! The cells in your brain are made of a significant amount of water. Drinking plenty of the liquid ensures that it gets the amount of oxygen it needs to function properly. Along with water, decaffeinated herbal teas and foods that have a high water content, such as cucumber, watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes, grapefruit, oranges, carrots, pineapples, peaches, etc. can also help contribute to your water intake. Here is a great article from Canadian Living that provides 34 tips for drinking more water: canadianliving/health/nutrition/34_tips_for_drinking_more_water_2.php
