Good morning/evening everyone, Solar activity during the past - TopicsExpress

Good morning/evening everyone, Solar activity during the past 24 hours was moderate. A pair of M-Flares (M1.1 and M2.2) were detected Tuesday afternoon from behind the southeast limb. The eruptive event itself was likely stronger than what was detected due to it being out of direct view of the X-Ray sensor on board the GOES-15 spacecraft. A bright coronal mass ejection (CME) was produced and directed to the east and away from our planet. We will begin to see the source region during the next 24-48 hours. On the visible disk, new sunspots 2190 and 2191 were numbered overnight and remain stable. All other visible sunspot regions are quiet for the time being. Minor (G1) geomagnetic storming was observed Tuesday evening at high latitudes. This was the result of an enhanced solar wind stream containing periods of southward Bz. Storm conditions have since subsided. The geomagnetic field has quieted down due to the minor storm levels for the past 24 hours. Solar wind speed, as measured by the ACE spacecraft, reached a peak speed of 457 km/s at 14/1339Z. Total IMF reached 15 nT at 14/1459Z. The maximum southward component of Bz reached -9 nT at 14/2019Z. Electrons greater than 2 MeV at geosynchronous orbit reached a peak level of 162 pfu. Have a great day everyone.
