Good morning everyone & a happy Wednesday or in my case, Friday : ) I want to take this time to reflect on my past year(s) in the VFW. My term for District Commander will end this weekend. Ive been running up the ranks since I joined in 2006. I have worn numerous hats from Post, District, State & National to include elected and appointed positions (all Post, all District with Adjutant at the same time for 3 years), State Women Veterans Chairman & National Women Veterans Chairman). These positions have given me the wonderful opportunity to have traveled to St. Louis, Orlando, Kansas City (numerous times), Phoenix (twice), Indianapolis, San Antonio, Washington DC (numerous times), Reno, Louisville & Eaton Rapids (Michigan). It has brought me to the best people I have ever met (other Comrades & Sisters) and my life has definitely been blessed because of these people and opportunities. My life has been changed for the better with the goals and purpose it allowed me to have. This past year, I didnt always use the best judgment when communicating to Posts or voicing my opinions but we all make mistakes. I did lose a few great friends and mentors along the way but Ive stood by each decision Ive made & I have no regrets. I know that I gave it my all and I did the best I could & for that, I am able to look at myself in the mirror & feel confidant/successful. I have learned a lot & I am so thankful & humbled for all who stood by me, even if youre in another Department. I am also thankful to those who have come to me and consider me a mentor because that took some time to get used to. I am ready to step back and help when I can but my main focus this year will be another journey. I will still remain busy no matter what because that is who I am!
