Good morning friends and family. I hope everyone is off to a great start to their Thursday morning so far. Over the last few months my Facebook friends list has gotten smaller and if you are on my list then I feel that I still have some kind of connection with you and therefore I want to share this with you. Below is a message that came to me unexpectedly and out of the blue last night. This message couldnt have come to me at a better time, because I was just having a conversation with another close friend about this same issue just about a hour before I got it. So the timing was so spot on. The name of the person who wrote it, has been left out only because I didnt ask them if it was OK for me to re-post what they had said. They are one of my FB friends and if they feel the need to become un-anonymous, they can surely do so. If any of you out there that have anyone that you call a friend or feel like you are a friend to them and they are black. Rest assure that whats going on in our country right now is taking a toll on their psyche right now. To my other friends who have engaged me in conversation about the turmoil thats going. Thank you as well....... PLEASE READ Hey Shawn, I saw your post about dividing your friendship and I am really hoping that I wasnt one of the ones you felt had divided you. The reason I spoke about the video not showing the cigarillos being paid for is because thats not what it showed and as much as I hate the fact that the white media constantly tries to make every black person out to be a criminal, I also dont like to see the reverse. My feelings on this are that Michael Brown was no angel,but he was no devil either and each side trying to portray that polar opposite to the other only perpetuates the problem. I cannot imagine, or pretend to know what it is like to be a black man in America right now, however I do know that if I get pulled over it becomes a nuisance or a ticket and nothing more. I know that when you get pulled over, it is likely purely due to the color of your skin and that irks me to no end. When a cop approaches you the likelihood is that it could end up much more severe than when he approaches me. I cannot tell you how sad that makes me feel. My wife and I have three children and one of our biggest teachings is tolerance and how we are all the same. I am an ardent supporter of gay rights and constantly ensure that my kids understand that everyone, and I mean everyone, deserves to be treated equally, but I am not the kind of idealist that really believes that is the case. I know that there is every chance when a young black kid gets in trouble, the end results can be catastrophic. I know that if a white kid is killed by the cops they show his graduation picture, but a black kid killed will have his reputation dragged through the mud and any compromising picture out there will be plastered over every news channel. I probably share much of your contempt towards the Rush Limbaughs, Sean Hannitiys and any other racist, bigot that is allowed to air their stupidity on TV. But I also feel that the same can be said of the people that propagate the issue instead of helping solve it. Someone once said to me, youll know if youre racist or not when you can feel no issue with your daughter marrying a black guy. Well I can tell you without any qualms at all that I would have no problem with my daughter marrying a man of any color whatsoever, whether that is black, brown, yellow or even rainbow (yes, I also wouldnt care if she married another women). If the person is a good person and makes my daughters happy, then I am happy for her to marry them. I hope that helps understand where I was coming from and my stance on things. If the cop that shot Michael Brown did so in cold blood, then he deserves the gallows. If, as unlikely as it seems at this point, he did it in self defense, then he should be exonerated. But I just like to see things clearly and make the right decision. Youre a good man Shawn. I have always thought so. Id hate to think I upset you with what I wrote before.
