Good morning my friends. We got up early this morning to take Gigi - TopicsExpress

Good morning my friends. We got up early this morning to take Gigi outside and the air was so fresh and cool. I wish I could have appreciated the cool air more, but watching poor Gigi in her weakened stage is just about too much for me. Vickie said Gigi had some bad episodes during the night and wasn’t sure that she was going to make it until daylight. I must have been sleeping really hard because I knew nothing about it. I was kind of upset because she didn’t wake me up to be with them through these most difficult times. It just breaks our hearts to watch our little dog go down so fast. It was just a few weeks ago that Gigi was jumping around and doing 360s when she knew she was going to get to go for a ride. Now, this morning, it is all she can do to walk. She seems to have some moments that are better than others and we treasure each one of them. I know it is Memorial Day weekend and I need to concentrate on that and what it means but we have been so distracted with Gigi that other things seem to have taken the back burner. Mr. Bill Young talked to our Rotary club Tuesday about his time in WWII and it think some off the younger members had no idea what a sacrifice that generation made for us. Bill and thousands of his fellow marines waded ashore on the tiny island of Iwo Jima to engage the Japanese in perhaps the bloodiest battle in history. He was there at the foot of Mount Suribachi when Joe Rosenthal took the famous picture of the small group of Marines raising the American flag on the summit after winning the hard fought battle. We owe so much to this great generation of brave men and women who gave all for our country. I often wonder if our generation would be ready and willing to give up anything to preserve our freedom. At one time, we were losing 12,000 WWII veterans a day, but since we have lost so many, the number is down to around 4,000 a day. If you have a chance, please sit down and talk to a WWII veteran about what freedom means to them. Better than that, go down the street from our gallery and visit the Military Museum and Coffee Shop some Thursday morning when they serve free coffee to all veterans and talk to any veteran…they would appreciate it and I promise you will come away with a new appreciation of their service and our freedom. Have a good day and enjoy the cool weather. Remember that the Dog Days of summer are just around the corner. Don’t forget to fly you flag and to thank any veteran you see. God Bless!!
