Good news for our dog, Bear - for the present anyway. For those of you that do not know, bear is a yellow lab who is approaching 14 years. He has arthritis and hip problems. He has lost weight to help keep mobile. He was 120 pounds about 4 years ago and got down into the 80 s with dieting. But he has lost about 10 pounds more in less than two months which has been a concern. He had blood work done a few days ago to rule out cancer of the organs and all came back excellent. However there may be a possibility of cancer elsewhere in his body that the blood work doesnt pick up. But we are optimistically cautious and feel we may have him around a little longer. His nerves have compacted in his back and hind legs which leaves him pain free. He is having a few mistakes in the house when he cant get out quickly but we can overlook that. He is on thyroid meds and pain meds just in case he may get some pain. He has a good vitamin and I cook for him now that he refuses to eat his dog food. He walks about a half mile everyday not counting moving around the house for long periods. He also gets acupuncture and laser treatments on a regular basis. He will be ok as long as he doesnt quit eating and as long as he ca walk and take care of his business everyday. The vet hopes he can be with us past December. We hope he doesnt have cancer that we dont know about. He is happy peaceful sleeps well and enjoys being outside and socializing with other dogs and people. We cherish each day we can have him.
