Good old TomTom had a rest today ... H figured he deserved it for getting us through Dallas yesterday. So it was down to map reading and my navigational skills to take us along some ‘country’ roads, through many small - and some not so small - towns. First it was along Hwy 31, passing through Trinidad (this H is really good at hopping from one world location to another) to Corsicana – which is a fair sized town with quite a bit of industry; then onto Hwy 22, through Barry (not Barrie), Frost (where Jack lives) and Brandon (that Brandon gets everywhere!) to Hillsboro. H said he thought that’s where Arsenal used to play before they moved to the Emirates (I had no idea what he was talking about??!!). From Hillsboro, it was onto Hwy 171 where we went through more small towns and Cleburne which was a bit bigger. Some more small towns then led us into Weatherford, the outskirts of which host this really nice park. All this took us just over three hours on a really bright sunny day, albeit that the temperature never made it over 10 deg C. In Hillsboro, H burst out laughing at a billboard, advertising a Realtor, which showed a woman’s face, her phone numbers and her name: “Molly Caudle”. He said no-one could make that up. (I didn’t see the humour .. she didn’t even have a dog!). On the way here we saw more road kill (seems to be everywhere): including a very young deer, a couple of skunks (phew .. the smell!!), and what we thought was another armadillo, but when we got closer the tail looked like that of a raccoon, so that was ok. H said a raccoon did a lot of damage to his attic when he stayed somewhere else so he’s not too fond of them now (he’s a master of understatement, that one!). Speaking of road kill, we saw a sign yesterday saying that over 2600 people had been killed on Texas roads so far this year .. and when we saw people today texting while they drove, H said he knows why! One lady was coming towards us and swerving all over the place, so H slowed right down and pulled over to the side of the road, and when she passed by, she was still texting! Half way here, H mentioned that the roads were so well signed that they must have been done by ex-RMP people. Huh! So much for my navigation getting us here! After that I sat on the passenger’s seat and just stared at him (love doing that!). He ignored me, though, because he had found a classical music channel on the radio (makes a great change from all that country stuff, he said) and because of that he discovered yet another piece of trivia. Did any of you know that on this date in 1868, Gioachino Rossini died in Paris, France? Even H didn’t know that! Yeah! (He did know who Rossini was, though, which was more than I knew). Well I see H is on his way back from the showers, so I better get off ‘his’ computer and pretend to be asleep ! WoofWoof
