Good race in Valencia for the Copa de Espana! With rain Saturday morning during first qualifying I set the 2nd fastest time, one full second ahead of the rider in 3rd! In the afternoon, the track having dried up, we mounted slick tires. I felt I could improve significantly my laps times, unfortunately I crashed into another rider who had suddenly changed his trajectory. I miraculously managed to keep the bike on its two wheels, however it was too damaged to improve my lap time. I was set back to the 5th position. Although the bike having been repaired for the next day, I was not able to participate in the warm-up due to an electrical failure also caused by the crash. The race went better. On the first laps of the race I lost a little time battling with some other riders. I set a steady pace and finish in 4th position just half a second from the rider in 3rd. The time lost on the first few laps hindered my chance for fighting for the podium however I showed my potential having the same pace as the rider in first position and almost 2 seconds faster per lap than the rider in 3rd. The radiator having been damaged during the accident caused the engine to overheat and thus consume more engine oil than normal. To the delight of the spectators this added to the excitement of the race with a cloud of smoke leaving my exhaust every time I would accelerate! I am currently 4th in the provisionary ranking of the Copa de Espana, just 3 points from the 3rd place, and this having missed 2 races. We will naturally be fighting for this place at the next race in Navarra end of October.
