Good weather to prevail until Friday -- PAGASA MANILA, March 26 (PNA) -- Most parts of the country are projected to have sunny to partly cloudy skies in the next two to three days as the easterlies will be the dominant weather system to affect the country, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday. In an interview, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster Rene Paciente said the easterlies are affecting the eastern section of the country, wherein localized thunderstorms are easily formed. Aside from possible afternoon or evening rains due to localized thunderstorms or convections, he said eastern Visayas and Mindanao, and most parts of the country will generally have good weather until Friday. Paciente said they are monitoring a cloud cluster near eastern Mindanao that may develop into low pressure area (LPA). He added that no cyclone was expected to affect the country until Friday. Meanwhile, Paciente said PAGASA may officially declare the start of summer this week. He said the northeast monsoon has further weakened and will “soon” fade. The northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” is the cold wind from Siberia that blows into the country, usually from mid-October until March. Paciente said the termination of the northeast monsoon with the easterly winds replacing it as the prevailing wind system, signals the beginning of summer or dry season in the country. At present, he said the easterlies or warm air from the Pacific Ocean is already affecting the eastern part of the country. PAGASA has yet to declare the onset of summer in the country since the criteria have yet to be met. The agency said summer season begins when the northeast monsoon is no longer present; the easterlies prevail; and when a high-pressure area (HPA) is present over the north Pacific Ocean. The HPA, which is the opposite of the low pressure area (LPA), is a weather system consisting of warm air circulating over the Pacific Ocean. He noted that they already monitored a ridge of an HPA over the north Pacific Ocean, near south of Japan. He said both the easterlies and the HPA will bring high temperatures to the country during the summer. Citing climatological record, he said the dry or summer season in the country usually lasts until middle of June. In its advisory, PAGASA said that moderate to occasionally strong winds from the east will prevail over the whole country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to occasionally rough. The temperature in Metro Manila will range from 22 to 33 degrees Celsius for Wednesday.
