Goodbye to a special member of the IPPL family. We at IPPL are all very sad to tell you that our wonderful Northie Newf crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Monday July 14th. Northie was beloved by all staff and visitors. He adored children. During his life he had two cruciate ligament surgeries and was troubled by arthritis and periodic skin and ear infections, but he was always gentle and sweet. Whenever a gibbon was in a holding cage after anesthesia, Northie would lie alongside with his nose against the cage. He also had some special gibbon friends; one was Blackie Gibbon who is in his 50s. Blackie and North would wrestle for long periods. Northie celebrated his tenth birthday on 17 December and we held a big party. 10 is very old for a large dog like Northie. Norths best friends Tina McCoy, Tina’s children Paige and Joey, and Judi and Pat Randall were all there. Betty Brescia drove up from Fripp Island for the birthday party. I was in California when North’s health declined. I got back last night and the house seemed so empty. R.I.P. dear Northie.
