Goodman, John Thomas Ph.D., C.Psych. 1935 - 2014 It is with great sadness that the family of John Goodman announce his passing on March 14th, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Jane (Maxine) for 52 years, cherished father of Andrea (Andre Smith) and Julie (Dean Tripp) and fiercely proud granddad to Melissa MacAulay (Evan), Madeline, Adam, Anastazia, Joseph, and Natasha. He is survived by his brothers Donald (Hilda), Bob (Edith) & sister Linda. He was predeceased by sisters Norma, Beryl & Bernice. His many nieces and nephews also share in our grief. John graduated with highest honours with his Ph.D. in Psychology from Michigan State University in 1965. He completed a pre-doctoral internship and a postdoctoral fellowship before accepting a position at Yale University as an Associate Professor in the departments of Medicine and Psychology. He was recruited by the newly founded Medical School at McMaster University in 1967 where he served as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics, and Chief Psychologist at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton. In 1975, John accepted the inaugural position as Director of Psychology at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. He served in this position until 1996, and guided the program to be a highly regarded clinical, research, and training centre. John was also appointed as a professor of Psychology and Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa from 1975-2000. He maintained a private practice, providing psychological services and consulting, from 1968 until the day of his passing. Throughout his career, he received many accolades and awards, including the award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology as a Profession from the Canadian Psychological Association in 1999. He served as president of the College of Psychologists of Ontario from 1996 to 1998. As a registered psychologist for more than 45 years, his work ethic and dedication to his profession was unparalleled. He was highly regarded as a compassionate and skilled practitioner. He was a loving husband, caring and supportive father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. Friends may visit at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd. (Between Baseline Rd. and Bayshore Dr.), Nepean on Friday March 21, 2014 from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm. Memorial service will be held in the chapel on Saturday March 22, 2014 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Dr. John T.
