A police officer has been killed in a shoot-out in Wadeville. 26 September 2013 | Melissa Hart Gunfire ripped through the air in Davidson Road, Wadeville, this morning, leaving four people, including a policeman, dead. The drama unfolded when officers from the National SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit and the EMPD SWAT Unit received information that a cash-in-transit heist was allegedly going to take place. It is alleged that the suspects, number unknown, driving in three vehicles were following the driver of a Kia, from a company in the area, who was carrying an undisclosed sum of money. Sgt Matsimele Mphahlele, the Sector One manager for the Elsburg SAPS, told the GCN on the scene that the suspects were driving in a black Nissan hardbody, a white Bantam bakkie and a maroon Toyota Corolla. When the suspects saw the police vehicles, a shoot-out ensued. A warrant officer from the National SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit, who was first on the scene, was shot dead by the assailants and three of the suspects were killed in the shoot-out. Two EMPD officers were also critically injured in the shooting. Both members were airlifted to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Kia was unharmed in the attack. The SAPS Airwing and a helicopter from Netcare 911 responded to the scene. ER24 also responded. Four suspects were arrested. The police are due to release a statement later, with more details
