Got to watch two wonderful flicks over the weekend with my family -- The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game. These are two real stories of our time especially the later one very close to my world of theoretical computer science. If I had authority, I would give best actor and best supporting actress roles to Theory of Everything and best actress to The Imitation Game. One gave us the strange struggle of Science and Religion with the blend of human love, other a mathematical genius whose choice of life style ended in tragedy -- my 12 years old kept me asking why Alan Turing had to die. Although before watching Theory of Everything, I was not much familiar about the real life of Prof. Stephen Hawking other than just reading The Brief History of Time in bits and pieces, his determination of celebrating life as it comes should give among of us who believes HIS existence to thank HIM for the wonderful life HE has given to us, for the opportunity to learn and live and for our families. On the other hand, I came to know Alan Turing during my senior year of computer science course about Turing and Universal Machine, Turing Test, halting problem. Today he is known as Father of Computer Science however his contribution was short lived due to the society we live in and created around us for hating people for the life style they choose. So many sad endings due to our doings ..... President Obama did put Alan Turing with the company of scientific giants like Newton, Darwin, Edison and Einstein, who was shamefully neglected and treated by his people who ran places like Oxford and Cambridge. I believe one day there will be an Universal Machine - that can feel and think and then there will be another big bang (judgement day or Qiamat or end of world) that will finish what it started ... which is known as time in Prof. Hawkings metaphor.
