Gotta share this with my friends here (and anyone else who wants to read it!). I performed my annual show at Camp Happy Hearts (14 summers in a row!), a special needs camp in Alpharetta, GA this afternoon. I LOVE performing for this population. I have seen some of these kids grow up and graduate from high school! During todays show, I was doing a trick called Mismade Flag, where, with the help of a costumed volunteer I put 3 silk scarves (red, white and blue) into a Mystical Magical Bag of Wonder and eventually end up with an American flag. Along the way, the scarves fall out of the bottom of the bag, I drop the blue one on the floor and produce a red and white flag with no blue field and then a flag with stars all over it and a small patch of stripes. Additionally I have wands to the helper that fall apart, spring around and multiply. It appears that I cant do ANYTHING right during this routine, but, of course, it is all scripted and on purpose. I think it is the highlight of my fun show. Today, Andrew (my helper) patted me on the arm after the second mistake and said, Dont feel bad Mr. Tommy. Sometimes I mess up too! Itll be okay. What a sweet moment! Before I could give him a hug, he gave me one! I LOVE my job!
