Gov. Shettima lauches Poverty Alleviation Scheme, Empowered Over 3000 Petty Traders Moved by the plight and the dwindling fortunes of traders in the state whose economic agility is facing serious challenges due to lack of business capital, the administration of Gov. Kashim Shettima had on Wednesday launched a poverty alleviation scheme aimed at empowering petty traders to motivate them in order to boost economic activities in the state. So far, about 500 members of the Vegetable Sallers Association of Gamboru Market and more than 2000 petty traders around Monday Market went home smiling with money ranging from Ten to Fifty thousand Naira each to boost their businesses courtesy of Gov. Kashim Shettimas poverty alleviation scheme. Similarly, another set of 500 petty traders of Metro Plaza near Monday Market whose shops were destroy by fire sometimes in last year were also compensated as member went home with sum of money ranging from fifty to two hundred thousand Naira each depending on nature of lost they suffered. The Governor had during the event stressed that the scheme is necessitated by the hardship brought by the strangulation several economic activities in the state by the activities Boko Haram and pledges to extend the scheme to every nooks and crannies of the state. Alhaji Modu Rigiya who is the Chairman of the Borno State Chamber of Commerce and Indusries and who also led the traders to the Maiduguri Government house where the distribution took place, expressed gratitude to the Governor for considering the plight of traders at this critical period and assured the Governor of their loyal and support at all times. He told the Governor that they have already collected their PVCs and their members are anxiously waiting to take the APC to victory at all levels come February 2015.
