Gov Theodore Orji approves waiver for employment ... Disengaged non indigenes to benefit Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Governor Theodore Ahamefula Orji has approved the employment of Abians in a fresh move to stem the tide of growing unemployment in the State. It would be recalled that in apparent response to continued shortfall in revenue accruable to the State, the State Government had placed an embargo on employment of civil servants. While that policy decision pitched the State against mostly fresh graduates desirous of employment, the big hammer fell on non indigenes that were disengaged to allow the State sufficient leverage to recover from an imminent financial distress. In a fresh move to reposition the States economy, the State Executive Council on Thursday the 31st of October, 2013 voted for a waiver to employ civil servants. In his remarks, the State Governor Gov T. A. Orji stated that an appreciable increase in the States Internally Generated Revenue has offered him an opportunity to absolve fresh graduates with special consideration for non indigenes who were disengaged from the State Civil service in 2011. To this effect, the Governor inaugurated a Committee headed by the States Head of Service Barr G.C. Adiele, members include Mr. Cosmos Ndukwe Chief of Staff, Hon. Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Mrs Ngozi Orji and Hon. Commissioner for Education, Dr. Mrs. Monica Philips to work out modalities for a successful employment exercise. In a related development, the Governor has also inaugurated a Strategy Committee headed by the State Deputy Governor Col. Emeka Ananaba (rtd) for the building of a model Airport in Abia State.
