Government committed to educate 27m “Out of School Children”:Minister ISLAMABAD, Nov 7 (APP): Government is committed to provide access and opportunities to around 27 million “Out of School Children” in all the age groups present in the country. In line with the findings of the WISE-2013, Pakistan also understands that challenges in basic as well as in higher education can be achieved by opening up new opportunities through innovation and interest. Minister for Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education Baligh- ur Rehman said this while addressing World Innovation Summit for Education-2013(WISE) held in Qatar recently. WISE Summit has become an annual global feature in Qatar where every year Educational Experts and Policy Makers gather to discuss trends and opportunities for cooperation to promote literacy. The Minister of State appreciated the role played by Shiekha Moza, the Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for creating the impressive rendezvous of WISE that brought together all the relevant movers and shakers in the Education Sector from around the world. He also congratulated Sheikh Abdulla bin Al-Thani the Chairman of WISE for envisioning a world where Education can make a difference. The Minister in his meeting with the Education Authorities in Qatar conveyed that the People and the Government of Pakistan have noted and appreciated contributions made by Qatar Foundation for promotion of education. He also stated that Pakistan has recently rolled out a National Plan of Action to accelerate achievement of Education related MDGs in the Country. “This common goal defines relationship between State of Qatar and Government of Pakistan as partners in fight against illiteracy”. In this backdrop, the Minister offered Pakistan’s services to join hands with Qatar Foundation for achievement of common goals. He expressed his desire to collaborate with Qatar as partners of WISE Summit 2014 for which further modalities will be worked out by respective agencies. The Minister of State on behalf of government of Pakistan also invited Sheikha Moza to visit Pakistan in the near future. He hoped that her presence in the country will have a great impact and People of Pakistan would be delighted to see her among themselves for the cause of Education. Baligh- ur Rehman hoped that Pakistan can very actively participate in global events such as WISE and hoped that such endeavors will inspire the students as well as professionals in Pakistan. He also announced to establish Pakistan Chapter for preparations of next wise summit to be held in 2014. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Executive Director of Higher Education Commission was entrusted with the responsibility to coordinate and finalize next actions and arrangements for next WISE Summit so that Pakistan can participate actively in the global education platform.
