Government says it is committed to the development of young people and their full integration into national development. Minister of Youth and Sport, Chishimba Kambwili, said government has realized that no meaningful development can be achieved without full participation of the youth in the country’s progression agenda. Mr. Kambwili was represented by the Copperbelt province permanent secretary Rev. Howard Sikwela, at the official opening of the Girl’s Brigade of Zambia 2014 National Rally Fellowship held at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola this morning. He said since the Patriotic Front government came into power in 2011, it has been making a lot of investments in the area of youth development, such as; increasing access to tertiary education by at least constructing a university in each of the country’s 10 provinces. Mr. Kambwili also said government is scaling up the provision of skills training to the youth by upgrading the existing infrastructure and equipment as well as constructing more skills centers so that more young people acquire vocational and life skills for their improved wellbeing and contribution to national development. And speaking at the same function, Girl’s Brigade national president, Dorothy Chimpampwe, said the construction of a multipurpose training center in Luanshya, which is the Girl’s Brigade headquarters, is underway. Ms. Chimpampwe said the purpose of the center will be to train all the vulnerable youth in society and not just the Girl’s Brigade, in life skills. Meanwhile, Girl’s Brigade Ndola division Chaplin, Rev. Mwape Chilombo has encouraged the church and government to continue working together to move the country forwards both spiritually and economically.
