The Governor described as worrisome the large number of youths who resort to anti-social and criminal behaviors, often as a defense against the anxieties of frustrations in their daily lives. He said, as responsible administration which was committed to bequeathing a lasting legacy for the future leaders of the state, it could not afford to waste or watch the youths become victims of the ethical and moral dilemmas of today’s Nigerian society. Governor Aliyu directed the Ministry for Tertiary Education to develop a framework in which students in the tertiary institutions could borrow enough funds from the banks to enable them study with ease adding that government was also liaising with tertiary institutions to ensure that the ministry gets and track records of students progress and academic transcripts so as to assist them. Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mohammed Bashir Nuhu disclosed that the state government had expended over N1.6Billion on 108,648 students of the state studying at home and abroad on scholarship and bursary provision since 2007. He disclosed that the ministry had already taken possession and started distribution of 6,292 customized cards amounting to over N72Million for the 2013 payments made for students of FUT MINNA, IBBU LAPAI, FLACLGS and Midwifery. He said some of the objectives of the workshop were to inculcate strategic leadership and decision making knowledge in the youth, highlight the importance of respecting constituted authority as well as the importance of obedience, sincerity and transparency in achieving development objectives or goals in the society.
