Governor Shettima Urges FG To Provide Jobs For Nigerian Youths Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, has appealed to the federal government to as a matter of urgency provide employment for the teeming youths across the country, as he said that was the only way of stopping the growing spate of insecurity and insurgencies. “The underlying causes of the present security challenges in our country was as a result of joblessness, illiteracy, hunger and disease,” the governor noted, warning that Nigerians should not be deceived that the problems have zonal or regional inclination as it is like an epidemic that can easily spread to all parts of the country. Shettima made the appeal, Thursday, while addressing the United States Nigeria Bi-national Commission (BNC) meeting in Abuja, on the invitation of the US government to speak on the current security challenges in his state. The governor praised the United States for showing interest in Nigeria’s stability by partnering to help in addressing the security challenges in the country, while appealing to the US to improve on its collaboration with the Nigerian security authorities for the benefit of both countries and rest of the world. At the opening of the meeting, the US Under Secretary, Political Affairs, Wendy Sherma, had said the United States and Nigeria have ties with each other at every level. She said the US and Nigeria Bi-national Commission has been a successful forum to advance mutual goals since its establishment in 2010, stressing that the meeting have showcased the important and challenging issues of national interest to both countries. Sherma added that the US is committed to working with Nigeria to develop a multi-faceted strategies to counter the threats posed by Boko Haram. Posted by niyi on August 16, 2013.
