Govt to terminate services of 250 docs for not working in remote areas DODA,AUG 29--The government is going to terminate services of 250 doctors, who failed to render duties in the remote and rural areas, where they are supposed to serve for the first seven years of their job. “Out of the 700 doctors who were appointed through Public Service Commission, 250 have been found absent from their service. We will take action against them as per rules,” Minister for Health and Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-din told the Legislative Assembly today. He said as per rules, they (doctors) are duty bound to serve in the rural areas during the first seven years.Admitting that scenario of health sector in the State was worrisome, Taj said, “It was unfortunate that doctors, who often get jobs for their concern on backward areas, refuse to work there”. “The doctors prefer to work outside State if posted in rural areas,” he said. The minister was responding to the question of MLA Bhaderwah Mohammad Sharief Niaz, who had expressed concern over non-availability of doctors in the Community Health Centers across his Bhaderwah constituency.“I was surprised to see that not even a single patient is admitted in these facilities because there is no one to serve them. Even a B level, medical practitioner is not available. The posts are vacant,” he said.Taj in his reply said, “I would not say everything is fine in the health sector but we have appointed specialists on the posts in the constituency under NHRM. They are on contract. You are talking about B level, but we have appointed post graduates in these CHCs”.
